Sant Feliu de Guíxols is a practical family destination because a real town and several beach options sit close together. Sant Pol gives you the classic family beach morning, the town beach lets parents combine swimming with lunch or errands, and the harbour and historic centre provide an easy change when everyone has had enough sand. Older children can add a section of the Camí de Ronda towards S’Agaró without turning the holiday into a hiking trip. The place works best when you let those elements overlap rather than trying to schedule a separate attraction for every hour.

Sant Pol is our first family beach recommendation

Sant Pol is the beach we would choose for an uncomplicated first morning with children. The broad bay has a proper holiday feel, the surroundings are attractive and there are enough nearby options when somebody suddenly needs food, shade or a toilet. Arrive earlier in high summer, enjoy the water before the strongest heat and do not plan another major activity immediately afterwards. For younger children, a few good hours on the beach followed by a quieter afternoon can be enough. Our Sant Feliu beach guide compares Sant Pol with the town beach and smaller rocky options.

The town beach is useful when the family wants different things

The beach in front of Sant Feliu’s centre is less postcard-like than Sant Pol but extremely practical. One parent can stay by the water while somebody else takes a child for lunch, walks to the Rambla or picks up something from a shop. The harbour is nearby, and the centre gives shade and a change of pace. This is the kind of flexibility that becomes more valuable after several holiday days, when children’s energy rarely matches a fixed programme. A family can split for an hour without turning it into a transport problem.

Use the harbour and centre as the easy non-beach plan

When the weather is cloudy or everybody needs a break from the sand, Sant Feliu still works. Walk around the harbour, pass through the centre and include the Monestir and Porta Ferrada area without making the morning feel like a history lesson. The market is useful when it is running, and cafés make it easy to stop rather than push on. Our things to do in Sant Feliu guide has more ideas for combining the town, beach and harbour in a way that stays relaxed with children.

Older children can turn the coast into an adventure

The Camí de Ronda towards Sant Pol and S’Agaró adds just enough adventure for children who enjoy walking. Some sections have steps and rocky viewpoints, while the S’Agaró side becomes more polished. We would choose a short piece, take water and build in a swim rather than announce a long hike. In summer, early morning or late afternoon is much kinder. If walking will be a larger part of the family holiday, our Camí de Ronda from Sant Feliu guide explains the route in more detail.

Sant Feliu gives families enough structure without needing an activity schedule. A beach morning can become lunch in town, a harbour walk can replace a planned excursion and a tired afternoon can simply move back to the holiday home. We would leave at least one day almost open and decide over breakfast. That flexibility is one of the advantages of a compact coastal town: a change of plan rarely wastes much travel time. Families who want beach access but still like shops, local life and somewhere to walk in the evening will find Sant Feliu especially comfortable.
