Eating in Sant Antoni de Calonge is closely tied to the seafront. The long promenade means lunch can follow a swim without any logistical reset, while dinner often begins with an evening walk as the beach empties. The restaurant scene is more relaxed than a major city and naturally leans towards Mediterranean food, rice dishes, fish and places designed for holiday groups. We would not search for one definitive ‘best restaurant’. Instead, use the waterfront for easy meals, look carefully at menus, and take advantage of nearby Palamós when you want a stronger fishing-town atmosphere.
Lunch should be easy after the beach
After several hours on the sand, nobody wants to drive across the region for lunch. The restaurants along and behind the promenade are useful because you can leave the beach, eat and return to the water if the afternoon still feels inviting. We would choose a place with a focused menu and enough shade rather than chase the most photographed table. Rice dishes, grilled fish, salads and tapas all fit naturally here. With young children, the ability to eat without changing the entire day can be more valuable than a restaurant that requires a special trip.
Dinner works best when you let the promenade set the pace
In the evening, Sant Antoni changes from beach to social waterfront. Walk first, let the children burn off a little energy or have a drink, then choose dinner. A later meal feels natural because the promenade remains active after sunset. Couples may prefer a quieter table slightly away from the busiest section, while families often value somewhere flexible and informal. If the whole holiday is built around that easy beachfront routine, our Sant Antoni with children guide shows how well the promenade works beyond meals too.
Look past the first sea-view terrace
A view is nice, but it should not be the only reason to sit down. Compare menus, see whether the kitchen has a clear focus and do not be afraid to walk a street back from the water. Restaurants that try to serve every international dish imaginable are not automatically bad, but we generally prefer places that know what they do well. On a longer stay, mix a simple beachfront lunch with one or two more deliberate dinners rather than expecting every meal to be an event.
Use Palamós when you want more fishing-town character
Palamós is so close that it can simply become part of the restaurant rotation. Its working harbour and stronger fishing identity make it the place we would choose for an evening when seafood is the main reason to go out. You do not need to treat this as a day trip; walk the harbour, eat and return to Sant Antoni afterwards. Our Palamós restaurant guide explains how we would approach the harbour, local seafood and the streets just behind the waterfront.
In July and August, the most popular restaurants can fill quickly. Reserve the evening that matters, especially if you have a larger group, but leave the rest flexible enough to follow the day. If everyone stays longer on the beach, an informal meal nearby may be exactly right. If the weather changes, you might prefer Palamós or Platja d’Aro. Sant Antoni’s advantage is that eating does not need to become complicated. The best meals often fit naturally into the beach day rather than forcing the entire day to revolve around a reservation.
