Sant Feliu de Guíxols offers three very different ways to spend time by the water without leaving the municipality. The town beach sits directly beside everyday life, Sant Pol gives you a broad and more classic seaside bay, and tiny Cala Jonca behind the harbour is a rocky stop for confident swimmers and snorkellers. None is universally ‘best’. The useful choice depends on whether you want convenience, a proper beach outing or a smaller cove with more character. That variety is one of the reasons Sant Feliu works as more than a quick day-trip destination.

The town beach is for days when beach and city belong together

The beach in front of the centre is ideal when you do not want to organise a separate beach day. Walk from the Rambla, swim for a few hours, leave the sand for lunch and continue towards the harbour afterwards. Mixed groups often appreciate this because somebody who has had enough sun can disappear into town without ending the day for everyone else. The setting is more urban than Sant Pol, but that is exactly the point. It lets the beach become part of normal Sant Feliu rather than an excursion outside it.

Sant Pol is the classic beach morning we would show visitors

Sant Pol has a very different feel. The wide bay, distinctive old bathing architecture and elegant surroundings make it look more like the beach people imagine when planning a Costa Brava holiday. It works well with families, but it is also a good starting or finishing point for the Camí de Ronda towards S’Agaró. Arrive before the strongest summer heat, spend real time in the water and do not squeeze it into the end of another sightseeing day. Our Sant Feliu with children guide explains why Sant Pol is such a useful family option.

Cala Jonca is a small rocky stop, not a family beach

Behind the harbour, Cala Jonca offers a completely different experience. It is small, rocky and reached by steps, so this is not where we would carry buckets, inflatables and a pushchair. For confident swimmers or adults with a snorkel, however, the clear water and rocks can make it an interesting stop. We would combine Cala Jonca with a coastal walk rather than plan the entire day around it. Travel light, pay attention to the sea conditions and enjoy it for what it is: a compact piece of rocky Costa Brava beside a real town.

Use the Camí de Ronda to connect beach and scenery

One of Sant Feliu’s advantages is that the beaches do not sit in isolation. The Camí de Ronda links different coastal sections and becomes increasingly polished as it approaches S’Agaró. A short walk before or after Sant Pol can add viewpoints and make a normal beach day feel much more complete. If walking is likely to be a major part of your holiday, our Camí de Ronda from Sant Feliu guide explains which sections we would choose depending on heat and energy.

Choose according to the rest of the day

Pick the town beach when lunch, market or harbour are part of the plan. Choose Sant Pol when you want a full beach morning in a more scenic setting. Add Cala Jonca when you are walking light and want a rocky swim rather than sand. The best thing is not having to rank them permanently. During a week in Sant Feliu, each can solve a different type of day. That makes the destination more flexible than a resort built around one main beach.
